🕌 Worship in the home · #14
Should a husband or wife wake their spouse for the night prayer?
Yes, and it is one of the practices mentioned with mercy in the hadith.
The Prophet ﷺ said: may Allah have mercy on a man who rises at night, prays and wakes his wife; if she refuses, he sprinkles water on her face — and may Allah have mercy on a woman who rises at night, prays and wakes her husband; if he refuses, she sprinkles water on his face. In another narration, when a man wakes his wife and they both pray two rak'ahs, both are recorded among those who remember Allah. Note the tone: the sprinkle of water is affectionate play, not compulsion. See Everyday adab.
