🌍 Children, inheritance & global · #90

Our adult child is angry and blames us for the divorce. What can we do?

Adult children are also affected by their parents' divorce, and their anger is often a wound that has not yet healed, not mere rudeness. Listen to their feelings without rushing to defend yourselves or blaming them back. Acknowledge their pain: ‘We understand this is very painful, and those feelings are understandable.’ There is no need to reveal every private detail behind the divorce, and still avoid speaking ill of the other parent. Give them time; acceptance comes slowly. Keep showing love and maintain the relationship even if they pull away for a while. If the relationship breaks down badly, mediation or a family counsellor can help. Your maturity and patience become an example for them in facing their own trials. See counselling.
