🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #22
How can I correct my spouse without undermining their dignity?
Three things stated in the texts give the framework.
First, gentleness — Allah loves gentleness in all matters. Second, justice together with excellence, not justice alone (an-Nahl 16:90). Third, restraining anger before speaking (Ali ‘Imran 3:134). In practice: raise one matter at a time, do it privately and not in front of the children or family, speak about the action and not the person's character, and offer a way forward. Corrections piled up after months of silence are not correction; they are an explosion.
